Yesterday, Universal Studios Japan finally announced a Grand Opening for Super Nintendo World, a new addition to their theme park located in Osaka. The park will be open to the public on February 4th, 2021.

The images of the park are so colorful it almost looks computer-generated, but they have truly captured the wacky colorful worlds that Nintendo often brings to life in their games.
Koopa’s Challenge, which might also go by the name Bowser’s Challenge, is the name of the Mario Kart ride at the park. Unfortunately for anyone looking for a true Mario Kart experience, you will still have to wait. This ride features augmented reality headsets and follows rails. It does appear that you will get to race other people though, on a separate track of course.
The pandemic is of course a concern, especially with a crowd-drawing place like a theme park. Universal has announced that their headsets will be sanitized and the park will adhere to social distancing guidelines. Hopefully excited crowds of Nintendo fans will be manageable.

The walk up to the ride will be exhilarating, as each patron enters Bowser’s castle and es under a looming statue of the villain before entering the ride. The track will feature several different environments, including a franchise classic, Rainbow Road.
Universal has even said that each ride will be a unique experience and that winning is not guaranteed. So better bring your A game.
