Touching Blood and Wine quest in The Witcher 3 could have had much more depth. However, CD Projekt Red had to get rid of important elements
The iconic quest from The Witcher 3 expansion could have been more elaborate - one of the development tools from CD Projekt Red came across characters cut from Blood and Wine. A studio employee addressed the situation.

In May 2024, CD Projekt Red The Witcher 4, commented on the trivia.
As a reminder, you may recognize Vivienne from the iconic quest "The Warble of a Smitten Knight." The quest is to lift the curse that's turning the quest's main character into a human-oriole hybrid, or else she'll die within 7 years. The most patient players could confirm this, using meditation to speed up time.
A Reddit with the pseudonym InTheZ0n3 revealed that in the editor files, you can come across characters simply named Vivienne's father and mother, which suggests that their participation in Blood and Wine was planned. In the final version of the quest, the key figure is actually its orderer - the knight Guillaume de Launfal, who is in love with a noblewoman.
Philipp Weber from CD Projekt Red revealed that not only the protagonist's parents were cut from the expansion. The devs also removed a flashback in which the unborn child of the aforementioned couple is cursed by a nymph jealous of their love. In this way, we would learn more about where Vivienne's sad story began. Moreover, the DLC was supposed to include a secret ending that would allow to find the culprit.
Weber said that the ready-made nymph model was used to show the Lady of the Lake in the "There Can Be Only One" quest, which allowed us to get the Aerondight sword. This element has also changed - the original idea didn't include meeting a goddess. This shows how much the game went through before the creators reached the final version.
Blood and Wine is the second and also the last major expansion for The Witcher 3. The expansion was released on May 31, 2016, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
