Ever wondered what actually changes when you try to launch Steam and it suddenly starts updating? Well, this time we know for sure. And while the list of notes might be long (and maybe a bit of a snooze fest), it actually has some much-needed improvements.
Latest Steam update in a nutshell
Here’s a quick rundown of the most important Steam Client Update notes from January 20th. You’re welcome!
- Clicking on the game image of the actively ing item on the s page will now take you directly to the game's library page (Hurray!).
- Added a global setting to manage game updates, with options to set exceptions for individual games.
- Fixed several Steam Client issues, including crashes when logging in, resuming from suspend, or switching between local network PCs.
- Addressed game stalls after taking screen capture for s with tons of local screenshots and sorted out issues with dragging the Steam window in the Store/Community view.
- Game recording updates improved error messages for limited s, fixed OpenGL recording issues on Linux, and resolved audio capture problems on Windows 11 24H2.
- Steam Overlay updates now let you save bookmarks for each game, make notes more reliable, fix scroll and undo issues, and improve the ‘Insert Link’ feature and toolbar button tooltips.
- Big Picture Mode got a few updates, including a new suspend animation, fixes for navigation getting stuck behind menus, the guide button opening the wrong menu, and stopping extra controller configurator windows from popping up.
- macOS updates include an ‘End of Life’ alert for macOS 10.15 (Catalina), with Steam Client ending on February 15, 2025, as well as fixes for game recording on Apple Silicon Macs, audio issues in Remote Play Together, and mouse input problems in multi-display setups.
- Fixed things for Linux, like preventing the screensaver lock, stopping crashes when exiting games with Game Recording on, reducing high U usage at startup, and fixing crashes with Steam P2P Voice Chat, game recording, menus, and hotplugging devices.
- Steam Input updates make controller input faster, cut down on U usage, and add handy features like showing mode shifts and making Nintendo Switch controller settings easier to find. Plus, it fixes crashes, config problems, gyro calibration issues, and bugs with bindings, mode shifts, and virtual menus.
