Players of Legendary MMORPG waited more than 27 years for this. Tibia receives new character class

Monk is the first new class since Tibia was released more than a quarter of a century ago, and with it, the iconic MMORPG has hit the Epic Games Store.

After nearly 28 years, a new class has come to Tibia in a major update to this old MMORPG.

The MMORPG market has already seen many "WoW killers" (or at least many "ambitious," "modern," and "revolutionary" titles), and yet Blizzard's creation continues to receive major or experimental changes. In the meantime, Tibia has just recently added a new, fifth character class: the monk (along with its alternative version after reaching level 20).

The Monk aligns with the archetype familiar from many other games: a hand-to-hand combat specialist and a holy figure who uses virtue-based abilities to offer healing and during battles. However, introducing a new class (with its own skills, equipment, etc.) to Tibia after more than 25 years of development was quite a challenge. It's enough to say that the developers from CipSoft had to change 130 thousand lines of code to adapt the game for a monk.

Tibia version 15.00.249ccc is not just a monk

That's not all that was introduced by update 15.00.249ccc released yesterday. Even if we leave out the experimental features (such as Aiming Mode, intended to assist with casting spells). A new area, Blue Valley, has been added to Tibia, along with over 70 items and 25 spells. Furthermore, the maximum number of characters per has been increased, allowing even veterans with a full roster of heroes to check out the monk in action. There were also balance adjustments.

Along with the latest update, Tibia was also released on Epic Games Store. The complete list of changes is available on the game's official website, and the monk can be seen in the newly released trailer.

So far, players appear to have a positive view of the new class, though most haven't spent much time with the monk and are waiting for the weekend (which might explain the supposed lack of a notable rise in player numbers; via Guild Stats). So we have to wait for the final assessment of the monk (and class fixes).
