Overwatch 2 will test if 100 Soldier: 76s can beat 1 Winston
The official Overwatch has shared plans to livestream a battle between 100 Soldier: 76s and 1 Winston to put the humans vs gorilla debate to rest.

Today, the official Overwatch shared an event planned for next week that will finally put a recent internet debate to rest. On Tuesday, May 6th, the official Overwatch Twitch channel will host a stream for players to watch 100 Soldier: 76 take on 1 Winston. This is a play on the recent internet debate of if 100 humans could fight and win against 1 gorilla. When it comes to Overwatch, even though Winston is a tank character, I don’t like his chances against 100 other characters.
Overwatch 2 livestream will finally settle the 100 humans vs 1 gorilla debate
Overwatch 2 has not had the smoothest ride since it launched in 2022. But the team has been making significant changes as recently as two weeks ago with the launch of Season 16, a new playable character, and a new Stadium mode. Freja, a new damage-focused hero, wields a crossbow and has an ice-y aesthetic. Stadium mode is played in the best seven rounds format, allows for ability augmentation between rounds, and gives the option of playing from a third-person perspective. player counts have at least stayed consistent for Overwatch 2 in the last few months, according to SteamDB.
The idea for this Overwatch 2 livestream is ridiculous, but I can’t help but be curious as to how they will approach it. If the Soldier: 76s are all going to be just as powerful as usual, their ranged weapons and healing will make it nearly impossible for Winston to win. The tank character may have more HP, but it won’t last. A more interesting version of this could be in the works though. If it were me in charge, I would make it melee only battle. It doesn’t seem in the spirit of the debate to include weapons. But of course, to make it more realistic, I would also up the damage of Winston’s melee attack significantly or lower the HP of the Soldiers.
Another question will be if the characters are controlled by humans or if this will be a purely spectator sport with bots controlling all one hundred and one characters. I would be interested to see the outcome of both versions, but if the Soldiers have a shot, it’s with a group of humans working as a team.
The announcement of the stream, shared on social media, also included a poll for followers to vote on who they think will win. The percentages were closer than expected, with Winston just winning out with 57.2% of the vote. But of course, as this is a video game, it does involve a lot less risk than the real-life situation that has been debated for the last week. So, the results may be contested.
