Update (March 31)
A month after the release, Monster Hunter: Wilds sold 10 million copies. Capcom announced that this is a record result in the company's history.
Original news (March 4)
Eight million copies of in the series, making it the biggest launch in Capcom's history.
It was clear from the very first hours after its release that the new MH had taken over the market. The reviews on Steam didn't inspire optimism on day one (and frankly, they still don't impress), but the massive "peak" of the number of players on Valve's platform itself left no doubt about the number of buyers.
All speculations were cut off by the official statement of the publisher. Capcom announced that MH: Wilds is the fastest-selling game in the company's history. Three days after the release, it exceeded 8 million purchased copies.
For comparison, the result of Monster Hunter: World from a similar period is 5 million copies, which at the time was considered a huge success for the Japanese developer. On the other side, Black Myth: Wukong - one of the biggest hits of 2024 - reached 10 million players in 3 days.
Furthermore, according to Geoff Keighley, this outstanding outcome resulted in Capcom generating half a billion dollars in revenue from the new Monster Hunter sales.
So the company has reason to be happy, although we hope this will motivate the developer to fix the problems plaguing this otherwise successful project. An important patch is set to hit the game, which will fix the progression issues in story mode.
