Is this the first hint at the next remaster? Bethesda celebrates Morrowind’s 23rd birthday and I think that might actually mean something

Morrowind just turned 23, could this post mean Bethesda is teasing a remaster? That would be the perfect gift for us.

While everyone is happily lost in Morrowind. Who else is hoping this finally happens?

Happy 23rd, Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind launched on May 1, 2002, so its 23rd anniversary was just yesterday. For this occasion, Bethesda made a little Skyrim. But I can’t ignore this one. Maybe it’s just good timing… but maybe, just maybe, it means a Morrowind remaster is actually on the way. Right?

That would seriously be a dream come true, especially since Oblivion Remastered turned out to be perfect in pretty much every way. beat the whole game in under 15 minutes. Iconic.

Just a girl, standing in Seyda Neen, asking for a remaster

Even though there’s the Morrowind Rebirth mod (and I don’t mind the old-school visuals), I mean, if they got their remaster, we deserve one too! The problem is Morrowind’s advanced age. It came out just four years before Oblivion, but back then, game tech was evolving really fast. A proper Morrowind remaster would need a lot of reworking. It’s already kind of tough to recommend Oblivion Remastered to someone who never played the original, but Morrowind would be even harder.

And when I say it would need a lot of reworking, I’m not exaggerating. That game had a lot of reading – like, no voice acting to help you out, no quest markers on the map, no proper minimap, not even a com to point you in the right direction. It really just threw you into the world and said, “Good luck.” And for some people, that could be way too much. And then there’s the RNG combat. Yep, you could literally jab someone right in front of you in Morrowind… and still miss. I know, it’s brutal, but that was part of the charm. At least for me. I’m not joking.

Okay, maybe I’m reading way too much into Bethesda celebrating Morrowind’s 23rd birthday, but look, I’m a simple girl. I just want to climb up the lighthouse in Seyda Neen and spy on Fargoth, or wait for Tarhiel to fall from the sky. And most of all, I just want to see the city of Balmora again, in all its beauty and glory, fully remastered. And I know I’m not the only one.

Like it?

Been with gamepressure.computercrack.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or iring my collection of retro consoles.
