House of the Dragon, a prequel series to Game of Thrones, is completing its cast. Four new actors have ed the cast - Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno. By revealing specifics about their characters, we also learned a little more about the show's plot.
Rhys Ifans will play the royal governor Otto Hightower. Steve Toussaint will play Lord Velaryon, who comes from a Valyrian family as old as the Targaryens. As a sea captain known as Sea Serpent, he has amassed a fortune, compared to which even the wealth of Lannisters pales. Additionally, he has the largest fleet in Westeros.
Eve Best will play princess Rhaenys Velaryon who lost the bid for the throne with Viserys Targaryen because the Great Council preferred a male ruler. Meanwhile, Sonoya Mizuno will play Mystaria, who came to Westeros with nothing but managed to become Prince Daemon Targaryen's most trusted ally.
The four previously revealed actors such as Matt Smith, Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy.
While revealing the latest casting decisions, HBO also confirmed that shooting for the series will begin in April this year. The project will be filmed in Los Angeles, London and Spain, among other locations.
HBO is so sure about the success of House of the Dragon that the station ordered the entire first season instead of creating a pilot episode first. The premiere is planned for 2022.
It is possible that it will not be the only Game of Thrones spin-off. Recently, it has been reported that an adaptation of stories from the Tales of Dunk and Egg series is also planned. An animated series for adults is also under consideration, which would air on HBO's Max service.
