EA Acquires Kim Kardashian Hollywood Devs for $2.1 billion
Glu Mobile, the studio known for Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, Disney Sorcerer's Arena and the Diner Dash series, has been bought by Electronic Arts. The deal is valued at $2.1 billion.
Electronic Arts acquired the devs of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, Glu Mobile. The purchase cost the publisher 2.1 billion dollars.
Glu Mobile is an American company founded in 2005. True to its name, it specializes in mobile games. The studio has had many hits, including Disney Sorcerer's Arena, WWE Universe or the Diner Dash series. However, the team's biggest success remains Kim Kardashian: Hollywood from 2014. The game was ed over 42 million times within the first year of its release, with revenues exceeding $200 million.
The popularity of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood encouraged Glu Mobile to develop a whole series of mobile games created in collaboration with celebrities. As a result, such games as Britney Spears: American Dream or Kendall & Kylie hit the market.
The purchase of the developer seems to be a good investment. Electronic Arts is doing better and better on the mobile market and intends to increase investments in games for smartphones and tablets.
The deal also seems to be beneficial for Glu Mobile itself. Studio's bosses are excited to use EA's extensive library of brands, as well as the publisher's experience in creating profitable business models for sports games.
Finally, it's worth recalling that this isn't Electronic Arts' only recent purchase. Last December, the publisher fruits of this transaction is to be EA releasing at least one racing game a year.
