Civilization 7 is losing even to Civ 5 on Steam. Devs prepare another patch

Revolution will probably be in short supply, but at least Civilization 7 will soon add more features and fixes.

Not only Sid Meier's Civilization 7 on Steam just before the release of the next update to the latest installment of the biggest 4X strategy series.

Firaxis Games studio discussed the next update of the seventh Civilization in a new developer's diary, which was published on YouTube. You can watch the video below (via Steam).

A large portion of the improvements will involve interface improvements - possibly the most criticized aspect of Civ 7 (though it's not the sole contender for this title). For instance, players will at last have the ability to rename settlements, and the "quick move" feature will enable bying the animations of units moving through each hex one by one. Moreover, it will be harder to surprise the player with an attack on the city, and the hints in the game will be more transparent and suitable for the interface.

Besides, the devs announced changes to the game balance, including slowing down the pace of the game, mainly by reducing the "progress" made in advancing to the era by eliminating civilizations from the game. Players will no longer be able to instantly "break through" the modern and civic technology trees.

Let's agree: none of these and other fixes is a revolution. Nonetheless, they please the players and, in truth, it is precisely such small things (and content) that Civ 7 desperately needs.

The release of the "groundbreaking" installment didn't go as well as we might expect from a new game in the series. Less than 50% positive reviews on Steam is rather a reason for shame than pride (especially since it's a significant improvement compared to February), and on top of that, recently, even more players were playing Civilization V than the seventh installment (not to mention the sixth; via SteamDB).

Besides, as the players noticed, even the official video has a few blunders in the UI (although it's more a matter of video editing errors than the actual interface). The patch should hit the game later today, along with the DLC featuring Bulgaria, Nepal, and Simon Bolivar.
