Activision Blizzard is preparing another wave of layoffs. This time it be in the departments located in Europe. According to information obtained by GamesIndustry.biz, the company plans to cut costs in the publishing departments. Changes will affect offices in , , Spain, the Netherlands, and the UK. The headquarters located in the latter country is to become the central point of publishing activities in Europe. It is also worth noting that financial cuts will not affect other departments.
The information was confirmed by a representative of Activision Blizzard, who itted that it has to do with the fact that many people are increasingly opting for digital versions of games, so the company must adapt to these changes, also in the European region. All employees who will be laid off are expected to receive assistance from the corporation.
However, before this can happen, the company must enter a so-called consultation period, which is imposed by European labor laws. In the past, sudden and unexpected layoffs have been the cause of strikes in , among other countries.
This is the fourth news related to layoffs at Activision Blizzard to emerge in the last six months. In October 2020, the French branch was closed, and a month later it was announced that cost-cutting would be implemented in offices located in the Asia-Pacific region.
