The popular and acclaimed post-apocalyptic survival game Project Zomboid received another update for the unstable Build 42. The update 42.4.0 brought in many useful features, but for players, the most intriguing might be the alteration related to looted buildings.

Although the idea of survivors scavenging buildings for supplies is intriguing, the gameplay was not well executed. The problem was that the buildings were often found to be stripped of their contents far too quickly, and the players who reached them left empty-handed.

The developers from The Indie Stone studio have finally decided to tackle this frustrating issue, and in the mentioned update, they have halved the number of buildings that can fall victim to vandals.

From the information published on Steam, we also learn that basements will now be looted less frequently than above-ground areas. This means that players looking for supplies should head there.

We no longer need to enter a building to say if it has been looted. We will find out that other survivors took the supplies due to the smashed windows and forced-open doors.

However, if we take a risk and go to the plundered building, inside we may come across a "zombie" equipped with a backpack taken from a survivor who was caught by him while looting. In case of killing the undead, the contents of the backpack will fall into our hands.

Devs underline, however, that these zombies appear rarely, but their presence is meant to compensate players for the disappointment caused by the looted building.

The update 42.4.0 extends the time in which buildings designated for looting will be completely stripped. The previous 56-day window in the game has been increased to 90 days.
