A 2D indie platformer becomes the new best-reviewed game of 2025
A new 2D platformer, Bionic Bay, is having a Blue Prince moment today as it jumps to the top of 2025's best-reviewed games. The game launches tomorrow.

Today, reviews are being posted for a new indie game, rocketed to the top of the review charts as well.
Sorry Blue Prince, Bionic Bay is the new best reviewed game of 2025
Bionic Bay is the debut game from developer Psychoflow Studio and Mureena Oy, with Kepler Interactive, the same publisher behind other indie hits like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The gameplay in Bionic Bay is focused on several sci-fi powers, which you’ll have to use to escape a mechanical ruin full of lasers, spinning blades, and other dangers. One of the powers shown most often in the trailer is the ability to swap positions with an object. This appears to have limitless creative potential, and it will be exciting to see what clips surface once the wider gaming community gets their hands on this.
At the time of writing, Bionic Bay currently sits at a 92 / 100 on OpenCritic, though that is only from nine total reviews. As more reviews continue to come in, its position at the top could change. That did end up happening to Blue Prince, another recent indie game, which initially scored a 92 on OpenCritic as well, but has since fallen just below other great games of 2025 like Monster Hunter: Wilds. Typically, the major sites share their reviews with OpenCritic and Metacritic, so the scores for games rarely change more than a few points across both sites, but on Metacritic, Bionic Bay, while still having a great score, is only at 86.
Aside from the teleportation trick, players will also be able to slow down time, shift gravity, and unleash some kind of blast to send objects flying. All of this sounds like a fun and creative way to explore a world, but Bionic Bay also goes past being a single player experience. While the primary gameplay will be single player and following a story, there is also a competitive racing mode where what looks like at least eight players can compete on the same challenge at the same time.
Bionic Bay will be released tomorrow, but if you can’t wait, or want to see if this is a game worth buying, there is a free demo available on Steam. I’m not entirely sure it will stick around once the full game is available, but it’s definitely possible. Bionic Bay will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on April 17th, 2025.
